About the meanderer

My name is Mary.

While there is always so much to see and so much to do, I love exploring things at my own pace and go where my curiosity leads me.

/mēˈandər/ – (of a person) wander at random.

I also love experiencing a variety of local cuisine and consider it part of my cultural experience.

When I first started traveling, I was all about capitalizing my time at a new place by hitting as many points of interest as possible. Eventually I realized the burnout wasn’t worth it.

Even though I leave room to explore, I always have to do some research so that I’m not entirely lost (I have a terrible sense of direction). I try to plan around 1-2 main activities a day, with a B level list of things to do if I finished wandering earlier than expected. I like leaving my last day at a location with nothing much planned.

I started this blog to provide some travel stories, tips, and recommendations to help you plan your next trip. I do not claim to be an expert on any of these places I have visited. I will share any mistakes I’ve made on my journeys so that you won’t, and share some of the things I’ve done that might interest you too.
